Please Enjoy New Images From The 15,000 Blockbusters Disney Plans To Release This Year
Disney's march towards total box office domination is, as you know, ongoing, and all signs point to 2018 being one of the studio's most profitable years yet: they've got multiple Marvel movies, multiple animated sequels, a new Star Wars movie and a live-action version of The Nutcracker headed our way.
It's...well, it's a lot, as evidenced by the gigantic press preview kit that just arrived in our inbox. Let's go through the attached images one at a time and see what we can see, starting with this year's superhero offerings.
At this point, Black Panther needs no further introduction; even as we speak, online ticket sales are exploding for Ryan Coogler's Wakanda-set entry in the MCU. Thus far, everything we've seen from Black Panther has been super exciting, and we're dying to see it when it opens on February 16th.
Here we have a new image from Peyton Reed's Ant-Man And The Wasp, featuring - you guessed it - Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and The Wasp (Evangeline Lilly). According to the attached press notes, the sequel will find Rudd struggling "to rebalance his home life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man" before being contacted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with "an urgent new mission". The original Ant-Man was a blast, so of course we're ready to see what they have planned for the sequel.
Here's a still from Avengers: Infinity War. You've already seen this shot in the Infinity War trailer (as well as at the top of this post), but here it is again, in case you just can't get enough of it.
Disney's 2018 superhero movies aren't limited to live-action. Here's a new look at The Incredibles 2, a sequel Pixar fans have been clamoring for since...well, since the first Incredibles hit theaters in 2004. Everyone's coming back for the sequel, which will find the superpowered family (yes, including Samuel L. Jackson's Frozone) taking on an all-new villainous threat.
Then we have Wreck-It Ralph 2. Real talk: for reasons I can no longer recall, I resisted seeing Wreck-It Ralph upon release, only to feel exceptionally stupid when I finally caught up with the film and loved it. This writer will not be making the same mistake with the sequel. Wreck-It Ralph rules.
Meanwhile, in non-superhero-related news, Disney's got a trio of live-action family films for your consideration. Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle In Time is the most high-profile of these, and will be along in just a matter of weeks (on March 9th, to be precise).
Next up: a new image from Rob Marshall's Mary Poppins Returns, starring the singular talents of Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda. This sequel to Disney's 1964 classic finds Mary Poppins waltzing back into the lives of the Banks family and doing what she does best: singing and giving life advice and generally just being a stern-yet-whimsical presence within the household.
Here's a photo from The Nutcracker And The Four Realms, which looks like a bit much.
And, finally, you're probably wondering where the Solo: A Star Wars Story photo is.
Well, no Solo: A Star Wars Story photo was included in the press kit we received (same with Christoper Robin, for the record), but the following plot synopsis was revealed: "Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga's most unlikely heroes." Solo is still alleged to be arriving in theaters this May.
