Chris Hemsworth May Be Headlining The MEN IN BLACK Reboot

This is a good plan, Sony.

Sony's long-gestating Men In Black reboot has gone through a number of iterations over the past year or two, but now it finally seems the studio has a firm plan in place: having hired Fate Of The Furious director F. Gary Gray to helm the project, the studio has now set its sights on Thor: Ragnarok star Chris Hemsworth to headline the film.

The Hollywood Reporter has further details on the reboot:

"Akin to how Jurassic World revived the Jurassic Park movie series, Sony’s reboot is to feature new characters rather than Agents K and J, portrayed by Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, respectively, and build on the contemporary sci-fi world in which they operated.

Sources say the new combination of characters involve a white character, a black woman, and an older man. The story is set in London."

By process of elimination, we can probably safely assume that Hemsworth will be playing the white character (side note: here's hoping they're already on the phone with Tiffany Haddish for the female co-lead role). We should also feel free to assume that Hemsworth will knock this material out of the park: after being given the freedom to flex his considerable comedic muscles in Ghostbusters and Thor: Ragnarok, fronting a Men In Black reboot feels a lot like a slam dunk. Cast those other two roles well and you could be onto something huge.

The as-yet-untitled Men In Black reboot hits theaters on June 14th, 2019, which means this thing's gonna need to get in gear sooner rather than later (which also means we should expect further casting updates in the near future). Stay tuned for more as this story develops.
