Here’s Our First Look At NIGHTFLYERS, George RR Martin’s New Horror Series

This certainly looks...familiar.

Today, SyFy unveiled our very first look at Nightflyers, the network's forthcoming sci-fi/horror series based on the 1980 George RR Martin novella of the same name. It looks ... well, it looks a lot like a number of other sci-fi/horror projects you're already familiar with.

Here, take a look:

See what I mean? We could rattle off all the other movies this reminds us of, but then we'd just be listing off a number of movies inspired by Alien. So, let's just cut to the chase and say Nightflyers looks (and sounds!) a lot like Alien. That's not the worst thing in the world, I suppose.

Here's how Variety's describing the series:

"The story from the Game of Thrones mastermind follows a group of eight scientists on a spaceship called The Nightflyer. The crew is on an expedition hoping to discover whether they can make contact with alien life, but the plan goes awry when terrifying and violent events start to occur.

So, you've got your interpid crew out on a mission, the possibility of encountering alien life, some stuff goes bad, people start killing each other ... yeah, this is familiar material, but what's here doesn't look bad, and we're certainly curious to see the final product.

Nightflyers won't be here for a minute - this featurette tells us it's coming "this fall" - but we're eager to see more from this one, and will definitely be willing to give it its day in court when it arrives. Stay tuned for more on Nightflyers as it becomes available. In the meantime: any of y'all read Martin's novella? Worth seeking out? How do you think it'll fare, being translated to the small screen?
