Kumail Nanjiani & Mark Ruffalo To Star In Post 9/11 Drama THE TRUE AMERICAN

The next from JACKIE director Pablo Larraín tackles some difficult subject matter.

Originally set to be helmed by Kathryn Bigelow (with Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed starring), The True American sounds like it's going to be a tough sit. Based on the non-fiction text The True American: Murder and Mercy In Texas, in the days immediately following the 9/11 attacks, a Muslim immigrant survives a deadly hate crime, only to advocate for mercy on behalf of his attacker.

Bigelow has left the director's chair (though will still remain as producer), along with Hardy and Ahmed. Replacing her will be Pablo Larraín, who just blew everyone away not too long ago with his Natalie Portman-fronted examination of another national tragedy, Jackie

Stepping in for the two actors are Kumail Nanjiani and the Hulk himself, Mark Ruffalo. To be honest, as much as I love Hardy and Ahmed, this feels like a trade up; seeing Kumail try and flex his dramatic muscles is going to be a treat after The Big Sick. On the other hand, Ruffalo has always been a reliable performer, so we we know he's game for whatever Larraín ends up crafting.

The True American doesn't have a set production date as of yet (though Annapurna is financing the picture), so stay tuned for more as soon as we have it. This just shot way up on our "must see" list.
