Tessa Thompson To Reunite With Chris Hemsworth For MEN IN BLACK

They're friends from work.

A few weeks back, we learned that Sony had scored Thor: Ragnarok's Chris Hemsworth to headline their soon-to-be-resurrected Men In Black franchise, which sounded great to us: over the past few years, Hemsworth has more than proven himself as a funny, charismatic, compelling screen presence in big, tentpole movies. This seemed like a slam dunk.

At the time, we also learned that Sony was looking for "a black woman and an older man" to round out the film's leads. Well, today, we found out which actress will be playing the former, and the news is very exciting, indeed.

Take it away, The Hollywood Reporter:

"Tessa Thompson is joining her Thor: Ragnarok costar Chris Hemsworth in Sony's Men in Black reboot.

Fate of the Furious filmmaker F. Gary Gray is set to direct the movie, written by Iron Man screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. The studio has the film dated for June 14, 2019."

Yes, Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth are getting the Ragnarok band back together, and we couldn't be more excited about it. These two played off each other masterfully in Taika Waititi's film, and we can't wait to see what they'll do with characters in the Men In Black universe. This is gonna be fun.

If you're wondering: the new Men In Black will take place within the same reality established by previous Men In Black films, but won't feature Will Smith's Agent J and Tommy Lee Jones' Agent K (translation: if they cameo, don't be shocked). At present, there are precious few details to share in terms of plot, but THR does tell us that "the new project is more of an ensemble piece than a two-hander and will be more global in scope." Sure, that sounds fine.

We're very hyped about this news. How 'bout you folks? Sound off below.
