Chris Evans Says He’s Done Playing Captain America After AVENGERS 4

Well, that's...uh...

I don't know about you folks, but a lot of the conversations I've been having about Marvel's forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War have revolved around one main question - "Who's gonna get killed off?" The presumption, of course, is that Marvel will need to lose at least some of its heroes during this two-film extravaganza. Sure, we could establish Thanos' power by having him blow up a heavily-populated alien planet or even a major city here on Earth, but none of that would communicate this villain's fearsome power more than getting rid of, say, Iron Man or Captain America.

Obviously, we have no idea who will or won't survive Infinity War and its sequel, but...what's that, The Playlist?

"In a new interview with the New York Times, (Chris) Evans pretty much guarantees that’s the case. “You want to get off the train before they push you off,” he said. The report makes it brutally clear that he is speaking about the MCU, and his role in it, in particular. The article says Evans “expects that planned reshoots in the fall will mark the end of his tenure in the familiar red, white and blue super suit.”

That's right: Chris Evans (Captain America himself!) is saying his tenure in the MCU is coming to a close. Evans says he'll be in both Infinity War and its not-yet-titled sequel, but after that? He's outta there. This has long been the plan according to Evans' contract, but still: the option to re-up surely remained.

A few things could be happening here. Evans could be negotiating through the press, as we've seen so many other valued franchise stars do in the past. Maybe he's straight-up fibbing, trying to throw everyone off the scent of Cap's incoming departure. Could just be that he means exactly what he says, and is ready to get off the (very lengthy) ride he's been on for most of the past decade. It's hard to say with any real certainty, but it's certainly something to chew over.

What do you folks think? Will Evans legit walk away from what's turned into a truly iconic role? Is he just playing hardball? Sound off in the comments below.
