John Krasinski’s Next Film Will Investigate The Possibility of LIFE ON MARS
John Krasinski's career as a director got off to a somewhat rocky start: 2009's Brief Interviews With Hideous Men didn't exactly set the world on fire (box office total: $33,000) and his follow-up, 2016's The Hollars, also failed to make much of an impression. Things weren't looking great.
Then along came A Quiet Place.
As you've almost surely already heard by now, Krasinski's unique horror-thriller is a big-ass hit, raking in over $50M in its opening weekend on the back of a $17M production budget. Critics love it, audiences love it, and the film's writers are already kicking around ideas for a follow-up.
Given his newfound success as a director and A Quiet Place's startling box office tally, you'd be forgiven for thinking Krasinski might immediately forge ahead with a sequel to that film ... but it sounds like he'll be going in an altogether different direction for his next genre effort.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Krasinski's next project is an adaptation of Cecil Castellucci's short story, "We Have Always Lived on Mars". Retitled Life On Mars, the film will revolve around...
"...a woman who is among a handful of descendants of a Martian colony long-abandoned by Earth following a cataclysm. The woman one day finds she can breathe the air on Mars, upending her world and that of her fellow colonists."
Apparently, Krasinski brought the story to Platinum Dunes and now has Paramount circling the project. Seeing as how A Quiet Place is that studio's first sizable hit in ... well, quite some time, we're guessing they'll lock in Life On Mars with a quickness.
Nothing further to report on this one at this time, but we'll be keeping our ears to the ground (Har!) going forward.
