JUNGLE CRUISE Will Pit The Rock Against His Most Dangerous Adversary Yet: Jesse Plemons

Earlier this year, New Line Cinema released an outstanding comedy by the name of Game Night. Not nearly enough of you saw it, and when you do eventually catch up with it, you will kick yourself for having not made the effort while John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein's film was in theaters. It's great.

And one of the greatest things about that movie is the character played by Jesse Plemons, a socially-awkward, endlessly suspicious police officer who happens to live next door to Game Night's main characters. Plemons steals every scene he's in and ends up walking away with the entire movie (if you're anything like almost literally everyone I spoke with after Game Night, he'll be the thing you remember most). Combine that performance with Plemons' attention-getting turn in last year's Black Mirror episode, "USS Callister", and you've got a guy who's due for a big moment any minute now.

"Jesse Plemons is setting sail with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt in Disney’s The Jungle Cruise, sources tell Variety.

Plemons will play one of the film’s villains. As previously announced, Edgar Ramirez and Jack Whitehall are also on board."

Well, there ya go: Jesse Plemons is now playing a villain (opposite The Rock, so...RIP, Jesse Plemons) in Jaume Collet-Serra's The Jungle Cruise, based on the Disney World attraction of the same name. Given the runaway success of both Disney and The Rock as of late, there's every reason to believe Jungle Cruise will be another big-ass hit, and now Plemons has a big-ass role right in the middle of it. Well done, Jesse Plemons!

Look, I'll cop to not being very excited about The Jungle Cruise when I first heard about it; there are only so many movies I can watch where The Rock puts on a jaunty little khaki outfit and does battle with CGI threats. But I'll admit that the casting here (to say nothing of noted madman Jaume Collet-Serra being onboard to direct) has me intrigued. Plus, word on the street is that this is gonna be a rollicking fantasy-adventure flick in the vein of Brendan Fraser's The Mummy, and it'll be interesting to see what Collet-Serra and this crew do with that sort of backdrop.
