Michael Bay And Ryan Reynolds Are Making a Netflix Movie Together

Bayhem will soon be streaming.

I don't know much in this crazy, mixed-up world, but I do know this: the idea of Michael Bay making a movie for Netflix fills me with unspeakable joy. For far too long, Hollywood has kept audiences from experiencing Maximum Bayhem (some scientists maintain that such a thing isn't even possible, much less morally responsible; these scientists can go straight to Hell where they belong), reining in this absolute madman via studio notes, budgetary constraints and a vaguely-defined sense of "right and wrong".

Balderdash. What we need is pure, uncut Michael Bay, and now Netflix is gonna give it to us.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the streaming giant has just closed a deal for Bay to direct Six Underground, a new action film starring Ryan Reynolds and written by Deadpool 2's Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Here's what it's about:

"Sources say the plot revolves around six billionaires who fake their own death and form an elite team to take down bad guys."

On its own, that plot synopsis sounds moderately interesting ("So, Six Batmans?" quips one BMD contributor), but with Reese, Wernick and Bay pulling the strings, there can be no doubt that Six Underground will be tasteful as all fuck. Probably more than a little problematic, too. We should also probably go ahead and assume it'll be extremely violent.

No word on what kind of budget Netflix has given Bay and company to work with, but THR's calling this "the biggest push for Netflix since making Bright". We're not sure how THR's factoring Martin Scorsese's mega-budget The Irishman into that equation, but even if we set that aside: Bright set the network back nearly $100M, so it's likely something in that area (indeed, we suspect it's even higher).

Nothing further to report at this time, but we are very curious to see what Bay comes up with here, and will of course be keeping our ear to the ground for further updates as Six Underground heads into production this summer. Stay tuned for more as it becomes available.
