Oscar Isaac Alert: Dan Fogelman’s LIFE ITSELF Gets A First Trailer

Poe Dameron leads a fantastic cast in a film from the creator of THIS IS US.

This Is Us is a big deal, right? I know a lot of you beautiful nerds seem to love it to pieces, but I've never managed to get on board with it myself. It looks like humanism brought to the small screen, which I'd probably be down for, though nothing is probably so convincing as this trailer for This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman's upcoming film Life Itself.

Check it out:

This looks charming as hell. The story here is that Oscar Isaac and Olivia Wilde are a young New York couple who hook up in college, get married, and have their first child, with ramifications that, according to the film's synopsis, "create reverberations that echo over continents and through lifetimes." When put like that, this sounds like it's either going to be transcendent or pretentious as all hell, but with a fanbase as fervent as the one for This Is Us, I think it's fair to give Fogelman the benefit of the doubt.

I may not know Fogelman's other work, but I do know a great cast when I see it. Oscar Isaac in particular is giving off real Inside Llewyn Davis-level dramatic vibes here, except, you know, not quite so depressing. But with folks like Olivia Wilde, Antonio Banderas, Annette Bening, Olivia Cooke, Laia Costa, and Mandy Patinkin populating those credits, this looks to be something sweet, heartfelt, and probably a bit heart-wrenching. I might still be fuzzy about what exactly the plot of this movie is supposed to be, but damn if I won't let these people charm the pants off of me to find out more.

Life Itself hits theaters on September 21, 2018. While we're waiting, sound off in the comments to tell me what exactly makes This Is Us so great. Maybe you all will convince me to give it a go before Life Itself comes out.
