It’s Official: Barry Keoghan and Diane Lane Will Headline Y: THE LAST MAN
It's been a while since we heard anything on the Y: The Last Man front, but today the floodgates opened: according to The Hollywood Reporter, the titular role will be played by Barry Keoghan (recently seen killing it in both Yorgos Lanthimos' The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Chris Nolan's Dunkirk), while Diane Lane (last seen doing what she could with the material she was given in Justice League) will play his mother, Senator Jennifer Brown.
But that's not all: FX's series, which comes to us via the increasingly-reliable Michael Green (Blade Runner 2049, Logan), will also feature turns from Imogen Poots (Green Room) as Yorick's sister, Hero; Lashana Lynch (of the forthcoming Captain Marvel) as the mysterious Agent 355; Juliana Canfield (Succession) as Beth, the girlfriend Yorick longs to be reunited with; and Marin Ireland (Sneaky Pete) as Nora, senior assistant to the President. Whew! What an incredible lineup of talent!
For those unfamiliar with the property: Y: The Last Man takes place on an alternate version of Earth where, one day and without warning, a plague wipes out every male on Earth. The only survivor is Yorick (the "Y" of the title), who sets off on an epic quest to reunite with his girlfriend...and to maybe try to figure out what caused the plague in the first place (and if there's a way to reverse it). Writer Brian K. Vaughan's series was rich, exciting, and featured one of the all-time greatest endings ever attached to a long-running comic series. It will make for one helluva TV show.
For reasons that probably don't need to be spelled out here, there's never been a better time for a Y: The Last Man series, and we couldn't ask for a better cast than the names listed above (especially Keoghan, who's an absolutely brilliant choice for Yorick). Well done, everyone involved.
What do you folks make of all this? Hyped at these choices? Not so much? Are you on the fence about reading Y: The Last Man and would like to hear a dozen people tell you to drop what you're doing and get on that immediately? Head on down to the comments below and let 'er rip.
Stay tuned for more on Y: The Last Man as it becomes available.
