SDCC 2018: Shout! & Scream Factory Roll Out Some Home Video Heavy Hitters
Comic-Con is a huge time for Shout! and Scream Factory, as they usually hold onto a Christmas satchel full of the next year's Special/Collector's Edition Blu-ray titles for then, hoping to give you more reasons to keep moving forward and adding to that endless personal archive you already don't have enough time to watch.
Well, 2018's announcements - which were delivered by producer Brian Ward and senior marketing director Jeff Nelson - were numerically the largest in the companies' history, as Ward and Nelson each took a turn dropping a gaggle of impending Blus for each brand, starting with Shout!:
Coming In 2019 From Shout! Factory:
- The Legally Blonde Collection (Legally Blonde & Red, White, and Blonde)
- Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping Collector's Edition
- Hang 'Em High
- Four Weddings and A Funeral
- Used Cars Collector's Edition
- Backbeat
- Dances With Wolves Steelbook (w/ Both Theatrical & Extended Cut)
- Kalifornia
- When Harry Met Sally...
- Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (with new extras already filmed with Michael Caine & Steve Martin)
- A 4K Restoration of The Jerk
Holy shit. There are some legit classics and forgotten gems mixed in with those catalog titles. Personally, I can't wait to own a proper 1080p copy of Dances With Wolves' shorter edit.
Scream Factory was up next and - despite already dropping news of a Creepshow CE earlier this week - still managed to shock us with a few home-runs. After showing us interview extras from their soon to be released editions of The Heretic: Exorcist II and Trick r' Treat, the delights came...
Coming In 2019 From Scream Factory:
- Saturday the 14th
- Screamers
- Single White Female
- 10 to Midnight
- Brian De Palma's Obsession
- Starman Collector's Edition
- Dracula: Prince of Darkness
- The Craft
- Sleepwalkers Collector's Edition
- Silent Night, Deadly Night Pt. 2 Collector's Edition
- Urban Legends & Urban Legends: Final Cut
- The Critters Collection (All Four Films)
- Candyman Collector's Edition
Now, with Arrow having just announced their massive Special UK Edition for Candyman just a week ago, that last release is going to have some serious competition with folks who own all-region players. But the rest are pretty prime picking for pictures that haven't really received super home video editions as of yet. Here's hoping Shout! and Scream Factory can capitalize on all the promise contained in those two lists, and fill our shelves with some cool ass discs.
