Taylor Swift And Jennifer Hudson Will Headline Tom Hooper’s CATS

This is gonna be something, alright.

Because it's been over two years since we had an update on Tom Hooper's Cats, you might've thought the threat had passed. Maybe you figured everyone involved had come to their senses, or that Hooper had wandered away from the film, setting his sights on some other wildly insufferable new project.

It is with profound regret that I must report this is not the case. According to Deadline:

"Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, James Corden and Ian McKellen are set to star in Working Title and Universal’s movie version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s smash musical Cats, I can confirm.

Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) will direct the film, which has been adapted by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot) from Webber’s musical. Hooper has been prepping the project for two years and it is set to shoot in the UK this fall. Additional casting is under way."

Cats is the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history, and tells the story of "a tribe of cats called the Jellicles over the course of one night as they decide which of their group will ascend to the ‘Heaviside Layer’ and come back to a new life." It features musically-inclined adults wearing elaborate makeup and costumes (all of which are designed to make the performers look like cats), as well as characters with names like Rumpleteazer and Munkustrap. Maybe this kind of thing is up your alley, but simply writing this paragraph caused me to black out.

This will be Hooper's first film since 2015's The Danish Girl, and his first musical since 2012's Les Miserables. There will be no survivors.

Stay tuned for more on Tom Hooper's Cats as further updates become available.
