Augustine Frizzell Will Direct STONED ALONE For 20th Century Fox

It's exactly what you think it is.

Here's a thing which sounds like an April Fool's Day gag, but is apparently very real: 20th Century Fox and Ryan Reynolds have teamed up for a new film called Stoned Alone. To be directed by Augustine Frizzell, the film is basically being pitched as "Home Alone ... but on weed, man."

The news comes to us via Deadline, who describe the project thusly:

"[Stoned Alone] centers around a twenty-something weed growing loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip. He makes the best of things by getting high. Paranoia sets in and he believes he hears someone break into his house. Turns out thieves have broken in. Fully stoned and fueled by paranoia, he tries to thwart the thieves and defend his castle."

Reynolds is onboard to produce the film via his Maximum Effort production banner. As of this writing, no one's been cast in the lead role of the "twenty-something weed growing loser", and we suppose it'd be too much to ask for Macauly Culkin to come back and reprise his most iconic role.

With weed becoming legal in more and more parts of the country, it seems inevitable that studios will begin producing more content intended to cater to the portion of the population that is partaking, but still: this strikes us as an incredibly odd project. It is, however, intriguing to hear Frizzell is directing: a relative newcomer, her film Never Goin' Back premiered at this year's Sundance Film Festival to a strong response (Jacob reviewed it for us out of SXSW; you can read his review here), and - one way or another - this'll make for quite the follow-up.
