Netflix Just Ordered Ten Episodes of LOCKE & KEY

Back in May, we learned that Netflix had (in the parlance of our times) slid into the DMs of Carlton Cuse's Locke & Key after Hulu opted against taking the show to series. In the time since, there's been little word on what was happening with the situation, but last night we received an update.

According to Variety, Netflix has ordered Locke & Key to series, starting with a 10-episode first season. This is great news for anyone who counts themself a fan of Joe Hill and Gabriel Cortez' excellent comic series, but doubly exciting for anyone who's been following along as this adaptation has repeatedly struggled to make it across the starting line. It's finally happening!

For those of you who haven't had the pleasure, Variety's got a decent plot synopsis:

"[Locke & Key] is a horror/fantasy series that revolves around three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Massachusetts only to find the house has magical keys that give them a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know, a devious demon also wants the keys, and will stop at nothing to attain them."

Hulu's version of Locke & Key already had a cast in place, but the Netflix version will be starting over from scratch, alongside a pilot co-written by Hill and Aron Eli Coleite. No word yet on who'll star, who might direct, or when we might actually see this thing, but of course we'll be keeping you informed as further updates roll in.
