Park Chan-wook’s THE LITTLE DRUMMER GIRL To Sex Up Your Fall Season

Look, if you tell us that Park Chan-wook is going to direct a six-part John le Carré adaptation for AMC, we pretty much don't need to hear anything else. The Oldboy and Handmaiden director can pretty much do no wrong in the BMD Team's eyes, and the thought of him weaving one of the author's complex espionage tales into an Event Series is music to our ears. The fact that The Little Drummer Girl stars none other than Michael Shannon, Alexander Skarsgård and Florence Pugh means that we're clearing out our fucking schedules, because this sounds like a pulpy dream come true. 

AMC's The Little Drummer Girl now has a target month when it'll start to sex up our televisions (November) and a few new images that look rather sun soaked, moody and gorgeous.

For those who aren't familiar with the plot of this spy game: 

"Blurring the fine lines between love and hate; truth and fiction; and right and wrong; The Little Drummer Girl weaves a suspenseful and explosive story of espionage and high-stakes international intrigue. Set in the late 1970s, the pulsating thriller follows Charlie (Pugh), a fiery actress and idealist whose resolve is tested after she meets the mysterious Becker (Skarsgård,) while on holiday in Greece. It quickly becomes apparent that his intentions are not what they seem, and her encounter with him entangles her in a complex plot devised by the spy mastermind Kurtz (Shannon). Charlie takes on the role of a lifetime as a double agent while remaining uncertain of her own loyalties.”

The Little Drummer Girl was adapted before by George Roy Hill (Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid) with Diane Keaton in the central role. It's not great, but instead of Michael Shannon, it has Klaus Kinski in the Kurtz role, so it's also never boring (as you can probably imagine). 

Start counting down the days until when we can begin arbitrarily arguing if Park Chan-wook's take on The Little Drummer Girl can be included on our Best Films of 2018 lists. Yes, those discussions are dumb, but they're also fun, so just roll with it, ya grumps.
