Cate Blanchett To Become Marina Abramovic For DOCUMENTARY NOW!

Cate Blanchett and Fred Armisen are gonna give performance art what-for.

Excitingly, IFC’s Documentary Now! has just announced that the flawless Cate Blanchett will guest star in an upcoming episode of the show’s third season. Fans of Fred Armisen and Bill Hader's comedy series can look forward to watching Blanchett take on the role of Marina Abramovic in an episode satirizing the performance artist’s 2012 documentary Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present.

Check out the details from Deadline:

"The episode, titled “Waiting for the Artist,” is a take-off on the acclaimed 2012 documentary Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present. Like the real doc, the parody follows an acclaimed performance artist – in this case, Izabella Barta, played by Blanchett – as she prepares for a major exhibition.

In the Documentary Now! episode, Blanchett’s Barta is “reconciling” her relationship with a former lover Dimo Van Omen (Fred Armisen), known as an infamous provocateur of the art world. The episode was shot on location in Budapest, Hungary earlier this summer."

Those unfamiliar with the documentary have probably seen clips online from Abramovic’s acclaimed MoMA retrospective, in which she shared intense one-on-one encounters with voluntary participants, including celebrities Jay-Z and James Franco. Blanchett joins Dame Helen Mirren, who hosts the documentary style spoof, and a long list of talented guest stars, including previous appearances from Faye Dunaway, Maya Rudolph, and John Slattery.

The series returns to IFC February 20, 2019.
