The New MARY POPPINS RETURNS Trailer Is Supercalifrag - Eh, You Get The Idea

They went full POPPINS.

A new trailer for Rob Marshall's Mary Poppins Returns arrived this morning. If you felt the film's first footage seemed a little subdued for a Mary Poppins sequel, rest assured that this one definitely delivers in the Eyepopping Spectacle department. Hell, there's even a brief shot of a 92-year-old Dick Van Dyke dancing.

Yeah, this looks more like the Mary Poppins I remember: the animated sequences, the impossibly cheery tone, a London townhouse so meticulously clean it looks like it was scrubbed by someone caught in the grips of a two-week meth binge. This may or may not be your kinda movie, but it certainly looks like it's doing its damnedest to live up to the original. It also looks very, very expensive, so here's hoping 2018's moviegoing populace is up for this particular brand of whimsy (they will be; lord knows we could all use a little whimsy right now).

Here's an official plot synopsis, via Trailer Track:

"In 1930s depression-era London, Michael and Jane Banks are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen, living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack, uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Mary Poppins also introduces the children to a new assortment of colorful and whimsical characters, including her eccentric cousin, Topsy."
