Your God Can’t Help You: See The Gnarly First Trailer For Gareth Evans’ APOSTLE

Repent or be cleansed, sinners.

Gareth Evans' Apostle looks like a total freak out: one half Clive Barker-inspired supernatural horror picture, one half down and dirty adventure to a mysterious isle, where cult leaders reign supreme.

Starring Dan Stevens (who's still sporting some residual Legion weirdness), Evans seems to have left all of the action movie trappings of his Raid pictures behind, opting instead for a big, bold, earthy horror vision. We're digging what's in this clip, but buyer beware, it promises one seriously intense experience.

Check it out for yourself:

The official synopsis sheds some light on this rather bizarre tale:

"London, 1905. Prodigal son Thomas Richardson (Stevens) has returned home, only to learn that his sister is being held for ransom by a religious cult. Determined to get her back at any cost, Thomas travels to the idyllic island where the cult lives under the leadership of the charismatic Prophet Malcolm (Michael Sheen). As Thomas infiltrates the island's community, he learns that the corruption of mainland society that they claim to reject has infested the cult's ranks nonetheless - and uncovers a secret far more evil than he could have imagined. Written and directed by Gareth Evans (The Raid), Apostle is a harrowing occult fable where the only thing more horrifying than madness is the sinister reality behind it."

Everything about that sounds spectacular. Thankfully, we're going to be seeing Evans' latest later this week, as the picture is enjoying its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest. You can count on a review shortly therefter (and maybe some other exclusive content...hint hint...).

For the rest of you, Apostle joins Netflix's insanely impressive Fall line-up October 12th. Say your prayers first.
