Disney’s Streaming Service Will Give Loki & Scarlet Witch Their Own TV Shows

When it comes to streaming services, Netflix remains the reigning champion. With a seemingly unlimited budget, a neverending list of subscribers, and an increasingly impressive list of filmmakers and performers being added to their bench, no one else in the game is operating at the same level as Netflix. Oh, Amazon and Hulu have their own considerable assets, to be sure, but - much like Highlander - there can be only one, and for now, that's Netflix.

For now.

Last night, we learned that Disney's forthcoming streaming service (which has yet to be named or given a launch date) is challenging Netflix for the Streaming Giant crown in a most aggressive way: they're giving Tom Hiddleston's Loki and Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch their very own TV shows. Wanna see 'em? You'll have to be subscribed to Disney's streaming platform.

Of course Netflix has its own collection of Marvel properties (including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and The Punisher), but Disney's current plan calls for both Hiddleston and Olsen to headline these shows, bringing a touch of top-shelf class to the proceedings. What's more, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige is expected to have a direct hand in developing these series, both of which will have budgets "rivaling those of a major studio production”. Want another bonus? Each show will apparently have a season comprised of just six to eight episodes, a massive selling point for anyone who feels exhausted just thinking about watching 13 hours of Iron Fist.

Disney's streaming service (which The Playlist says is expected to cost less than a monthly subscription to Netflix) will allegedly launch sometime in 2019, but nothing's confirmed on that front as of yet. Obviously, if this is how Disney plans to run things, the next few years are going to be very interesting, indeed.
