New CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD Trailer Introduces A Familiar Snake
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is releasing in just a couple months, and its marketing machine is kicking into high gear. Case in point: WB today dropped what it's calling the "final trailer" for the film. Given the months between now and then, we're suspicious that "final" is a relative term - but check it out anyway.
Seems about right: there's a ton of imaginative, visually-resplendent magical shit going down here, and with the exception of tired, blonde domestic abuser Johnny Depp, it all looks like rather a lot of fun.
The most notable element for Potter fans, however, is the presence of Nagini, played here by Claudia Kim. Nagini, for those of you not up on your Potter lore, later becomes bonded to Lord Voldemort, becoming one of his Horcruxes (and thus containing a piece of his soul). She appears in snake form a number of times in the original Harry Potter octalogy, most notably killing Severus Snape before being subsequently beheaded by Hot Neville Longbottom.
Nagini's presence in this film further emphasises the new series' connection to the old. It also sets up a likely-tragic character: at the time of this film, she's a circus performer who can transform into a snake, but by the time the Wizarding World trades up in villains from Johnny Depp to Ralph Fiennes, her blood curse has progressed to the point where her human form has disappeared. Tough break, snake.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald releases on November 16th. In addition to the above, it will feature this wonderful buddy right here, who as far as we're concerned is the Most Fantastic Beast.
