And Now Netflix Is Making A Live-Action COWBOY BEBOP Series

Netflix is definitely going through an anime phase.

According to Deadline, Netflix has given a 10-episode order for a live-action series based on Cowboy Bebop, the award-winning, cult classic anime series your cousin's been trying to get you to watch since the late '90s. Excitingly, it will be written by Thor: Ragnarok's Chris Yost, who will also executive produce alongside Sunrise, the studio that created the animated original.

For those unfamiliar with the series, Cowboy Bebop concerns a group of bounty hunters who travel around the solar system getting into various misadventures. In the original, these misadventures covered a wide range of genres - action, comedy, sci-fi, detective capers, you name it - while drawing heavily from western movie imagery. It's a melting pot of a show, in other words, and often credited as the anime series that got a lot of fans into anime in the first place (interesting bit of trivia: Cowboy Bebop's the first anime ever aired on Adult Swim).

How will it fare in live-action? We have no idea! As of this writing we don't know who's gonna star in it, who's gonna direct it, or what kind of budget the series will be working with - all very important factors. One imagines this'll be an expensive series, but since when has that been an issue for Netflix? These folks have quite the war chest at their disposal (and, it's worth pointing out, the looming threat of Disney+ to contend with).

Anyhoo, nothing further to report at this time, but we'll keep you informed as further updates roll in. Sound off in the comments below if you're particularly excited or outraged by the above.
