The New SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK Poster Is Perfect
For horror fans of a certain age, reading Alvin Schwartz and Stephen Gammell's Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark series was a formative experience, a vital stepping stone to the world of full-on, gnarly slasher films and other weird-ass horror offerings. When CBS Films announced it was turning the series into a movie (directed by The Autopsy of Jane Doe's André Øvredal and executive produced by Guillermo Del Toro), those same fans were hyped...but also a little cautious. Would the production really be able to capture the horror of Gammell's illustrations?
Yup.
This is the latest poster for Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark, and right off the bat they've given us Harold. Harold! Y'know, "skins folks alive, stomps around on rooftops" Harold? They put him on the poster! Never in my wildest dreams did I think they'd do that. Talk about a good way to build faith amongst the fanbase. If they release a poster featuring that girl with baby spiders bursting out of her face, we'll launch a goddamn Oscar campaign.
Here's an official plot synopsis for the film:
"Inspired by one of the most terrifying children's book series of all time, SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK follows a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town."
We're guessing this one's gonna be something like Goosebumps with a harder edge, and that's A-OK with us. What do you folks think? Feeling this poster as much as we are? Impressed they threw Harold on there? Would you be interested to learn that we may be getting the film's first trailer this weekend? Sound off in the comments below.
Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark hits theaters on August 9th. We're hyped.
