It’s Official: Benedict Cumberbatch Is Satan
Well, here's an unexpected surprise: according to Variety, Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch will play Satan in Amazon's forthcoming adaptation of Good Omens, based on the novel of the same name from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. They describe Cumberbatch's incarnation of the Dark Lord (who'll appear in the series' sixth episode) as "giant", "animated" and "400 feet high". We're into it!
For those unfamiliar with Good Omens, Variety's got a pretty solid breakdown of the plot:
"The show is set in 2018 on the brink of an apocalypse as humanity prepares for a final judgment. But Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley (David Tennant), a demon, aren’t enthusiastic about the end of the world, and can’t seem to find the Antichrist."
In addition to Cumberbatch, Sheen and Tennant, Good Omens also stars Jack Whitehall, Michael McKean, Miranda Richardson, Jon Hamm, Nick Offerman, and Frances McDormand, who'll be voicing God herself. We've been waiting to see this thing ever since it was announced (how could anyone not be excited by this cast?), and we're very excited to learn that Cumberbatch has been announced as Ol' Scratch himself. By the way: who do we have to talk to for a spin-off featuring Cumberbatch's 400-foot Satan throwing down with the 400-foot Satan who appeared in This Is The End? We'd marathon 18 hours of that shit right now.
Oh, hey, and while you're here: here's a fun little animation, which we're guessing serves as the show's opening credits scene:

Nothing further to report at this time, but with Good Omens hitting Amazon on May 31st, it's likely there'll be more updates in the near-ish future. Stay tuned for those, and - in the meantime - feel free to celebrate Cumberbatch's new gig as the Prince of Darkness along with us in the comments below.
