From GAME OF THRONES To DISCWORLD: Richard Dormer Will Lead THE WATCH

Terry Pratchett's Discworld series is bursting at the seams with iconic fantasy imagery and characters, so it's a wonder we haven't had more adaptations of it. This sordid state of affairs will be alleviated somewhat when BBC America brings us The Watch, a new series about the Ankh-Morpork City Watch from Pratchett's Discworld novels. We also know who will be leading the eponymous Watch: none other than Game of Thrones' Ser Beric Dondarrion himself, Richard Dormer.

Dormer will be playing Sam Vines, the reluctant, no-nonsense police captain who often ends up being the City of Ankh-Morpork's last defense against total magical punk anarchy. Rounding out the cast will be: Jo Eaton-Kent as Constable Cheery, a genius non-binary forensics expert, Lara Rossi as Lady Sybil Ramkin, a rich noble who's also a vigilante (sound familiar?), Adam Hugill as Constable Carrot, a new human recruit who was raised by dwarves, and Marama Corlette as Corporal Angua, Carrot's overworked trainer.

If it's taking its cues from the Pratchett novels, I could see The Watch being a super sarcastic urban-fantasy police procedural. The show's creators are describing it as a "punk rock drama", and if that's anything like I'm imagining (Alex Cox with wizards), then sign me up.

The Watch is set to premiere sometime in 2020 on BBC America. Until then, I'm gonna work on a little project. I've been a long-time Discworld fan, but I've never dipped my toes in any of its adaptations. Do you know anywhere I should start?
