The Russo Bros. Want To Stay In The Tom Holland Business For CHERRY

With Avengers: Endgame just weeks away from hitting theaters, it's time for the Russo Brothers to start looking ahead to their next project: a feature adaptation of the best-selling Nico Walker novel, Cherry. The Russo Brothers' AGBO studio acquired the rights to the book last August, and have a script ready to shoot this summer by Jennifer Goldberg.

And now it appears we know who'll star in the movie: Tom Holland, who previously worked with the Russos on both Avengers: Infinity War and (presumably, ahem) Avengers: Endgame.

Here's how Variety's describing the film:

“Cherry parallels the true life story of the author, a former Army medic who returned from Iraq with extreme undiagnosed PTSD, fell into opioid addiction and began robbing banks. Walker was caught and convicted in 2011 and is scheduled to be released in 2020."

So, Cherry's an inspired-by-a-true-story deal about an Army medic who returns home from war with PTSD, only to get involved with heavy drug use and bank robbery. Holland's an interesting choice for a character like that - it's certainly a darker role than we're accustomed to seeing him in! - and it's intriguing to imagine what the Russo Bros. will do with this material. Consider our interest piqued, Russos.

Holland's not officially signed to Cherry yet, but you know how these things go: once they enter the "final negotiations" stage, that's pretty much a done deal. Nothing further to report at this time, but we'll keep you informed as further Cherry updates roll in. In the meantime, we'll be over here getting unreasonably hyped about Avengers: Endgame, which hits theaters on April 26th.
