WATCH: The Wonderful World of Disney Remakes

Remakes are a bit of a thorny subject where modern cinema is concerned. Should companies focus their time and resources on developing new and original properties, or should they bank on nostalgia because it is more economically safe and nominally more crowd-pleasing?

Regardless of where you stand on this issue, it's hard to deny that Disney's past decade of remaking their catalog of animated films as live-action/CGI hybrids is an interesting exercise, one that has produced as many experimental twists on old classics as it has faithful recreations. Now, with Dumbo making its way to theaters, we decided to take a look back at a few of those remakes to show how we got to where we are today.
