This Nine Minute DEATH STRANDING Trailer Has EVERYTHING

A baby in a jar. Forest demons. A character named DIE-HARD MAN.

We've been talking about Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding for a very long time here at Birth.Movies.Death., and how could we not? The first teaser arrived all the way back in 2016, and immediately captured our imaginations with its isane pedigree: it's the latest game from legendary game designer Hideo Kojima (now free from his troubled relationship with Konami), it features highly-detailed mo-cap performances from a cast which includes Guillermo del Toro, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux and Norman Reedus, and also it prominently features a baby - possibly a superpowered baby of some sort - riding around in a jar. Maybe you're not gonna pay attention to something like that, but not us.

This being a Kojima game, the road to Death Stranding's release has been long and filled with weird asides, but today Sony finally pulled back the curtain on their forthcoming exclusive, dating it for November of this year and deploying a brand-new, nine-minute trailer which...well, really, you just need to watch it. There's a lot going on here.

In classic Kojima fashion, Death Stranding looks to be overflowing with ideas, meticulously executed (I haven't checked, but I'm certain someone on Twitter has already declared this the best-looking game of all time) and filled with the type of gameplay that someone like me will lose patience with within a matter of hours.

Yes, it's here that I will admit to not being a fan of the Metal Gear games (believe me: I've tried), all of which have struck me as a bit too, uh, methodical for my liking. On paper, I love literally everything Kojima does - The weirdness! The attention to detail! His truly delightful social media presence! - but in practice I've never been able to reconcile the complexity of the average Kojima effort with my needs as an ADD-afflicted idiot who really just wants to shoot things and skip through cut scenes as quickly as possible.

All of that said, I know a blockbuster when I see one, and Death Stranding is sure to be a hit. This game looks amazing, and very likely to scratch the itch that Metal Gear fans've been feeling for the past few years. I'm as impressed by everything going on here as I am certain that it won't be for me, but that's totally fine. It'll be for a lot of you, and I can't wait to see all the gifs and memes and insane reveals that come out of this thing.

Death Stranding hits stores on November 8th. You in or what?
