SDCC 2019: You Must Watch The Full Trailer For HBO’s WATCHMEN
As you surely know by now, we are unreasonably excited about HBO's Watchmen series, which'll hit the network later this year. It's got an incredible cast. They've got Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross doing the score. Damon Lindelof is showrunning the thing, and has been very upfront about the fact that this isn't a straight-up adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' seminal comic book series. Everything about it sounds great.
And now there's this.
There's so much to unpack here, I hardly know where to start.
This is definitely not the Watchmen we know and love (it's a sequel of sorts, apparently), but that's kind of exciting, right? Zack Snyder's 2009 adaptation was about as loyal to the source material as one could reasonably hope for (and, for my money, was pretty damn great!), but I'd have very little use for another version of that - only longer. Lindelof appears to be playing with the iconography of this property in a number of interesting ways, and the quality on display here is top-notch. We will watch (HAR!) the everloving shit out of this series.
Here's an official synopsis:
"Watchmen takes place in an alternative, contemporary reality in the United States, in which masked vigilantes became outlawed due to their violent methods. Despite this, some gather around in order to start a revolution while others are going out to stop it before it is too late, as a greatly wide question levitates above them all; who watches the Watchmen?
We're in. We're all in. Could not be more in. How 'bout y'all? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and stay tuned for more on Watchmen as further updates become available. We still don't have a premiere date, but word on the street says it'll start rolling out on HBO before the end of the year.
