Trent Reznor And Atticus Ross Join HBO’s WATCHMEN Squad

HBO's Watchmen "remix" is going to series - in fact, it's in production now under showrunner Damon Lindelof and The Killing director Nicole Kassell. Some fans bristle at the idea of Lindelof altering a beloved graphic novel. In an ideal world, they'll have to eat their words about the project when it airs. There are reasons to be excited: Kassell; actors Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens and Frances Fisher; the fact that HBO has a pretty decent track record.

Add another reason to that list (or two reasons, depending on how you measure it): per Variety, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross just signed on to compose the musical score for the series.

Reznor and Ross signing onto a project tends to be, pretty universally, a Good Thing. The pair won Oscars for their work on The Social Network, and have also worked on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl, Ken Burns' The Vietnam War, and the upcoming Mid90s. Their atmospheric composition style, descended from industrial music through a wash of electronic wizardry, feels like it'd fit well with Watchmen's dark, deconstructive view of the superhero genre. This show will, at least, sound good.

Watchmen is set to debut in 2019, giving HBO another flagship show to fall back on after Game of Thrones finishes. Will you be watching?
