VENOM 2 Snags Tarantino’s DP Robert Richardson
We already know that mo-cap legend Andy Serkis will direct Venom 2, and star Tom Hardy is helping out with the script. If that isn’t enough to assure you that the sequel will be an improvement on its predecessor, then surely news of Robert Richardson (a frequent collaborator of Oliver Stone, Martin Scorsese, and Quentin Tarantino) taking the reins of Venom 2’s cinematography should be enough to catch your interest.
With films like JFK, Kill Bill, The Aviator, Shutter Island, Django Unchained, (deep breath) Hugo, Inglourious Basterds, World War Z, The Hateful Eight, and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood under his belt, Robert Richardson would be a homerun choice for any film, much less a superhero film. It’s worth noting that Richardson and Serkis worked together before on 2017’s Breathe, which I haven’t seen, but I’m sure some helpful commenters who have can describe how it looks below.
Between this, an interesting choice of director in Serkis, and letting Tom Hardy (the only redeeming factor of the original Venom) have more control, Venom 2 is shaping up to be a genuinely cool project. I look forward to seeing how this turns out come October 2, 2020. (But for the love of god, Sony, please keep Tom Holland’s Spider-Man out of it.)
