GAME OF THRONES Prequel HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Just Got Ordered To Series

That's the one about the Targaryens, for those keeping score.

Earlier today, we learned that Jane Goldman's Game of Thrones prequel was not ordered to series, as had been expected after the pilot wrapped. But there's still one prequel moving forward, and that will be the newly-titled House of the Dragon, the show that will focus on the Targaryen royal family during the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.

We've reported on this show before (so you can look back to this post for more details), but now we're getting confirmation that the show has, in fact, been ordered to series and will premiere on HBO. We also have something to call it. House of The Dragon-- I don't know, it sounds a little too wuxia for this franchise, but maybe I'll get used to it.

When it comes to the two potential Thrones' spin-offs we've been floated with so far, House of the Dragon sounds like the easier one to pull off, so it's no major mystery why this one made it to series and not the one with Naomi Watts and ice zombies. The Dance of The Dragons is full of all that court intrigue and wartime politics that made the early seasons of Thrones such a big draw. Also, dragons.

No word on when we can expect this program to air. George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal are executive producing, with Condal serving as showrunner for the first season. Personally, I can't wait to see this series get made, released, and inevitably overrun Martin's source material because Fire & Blood Volume II is still in progress as of this writing.
