Donnie Yen To Make The Live-Action MULAN Awesome

Fact: if you add Donnie Yen to literally anything, it improves by 200%.

Donnie Yen is the fucking (Ip) man. That's not an opinion, it's just the goddamn truth. Action fans have long known just how badass he is, as the Hong Kong legend's been delivering fist-pumping performances for decades. Seeing Yen in Star Wars: Rogue One was a real treat - he stole the whole damn movie - and those who skipped XXX: The Return of Xander Cage missed out on even more show-stopping greatness.

Now, Yen has signed on to co-star in Disney's live-action update of Mulan, alongside Chinese actress Liu Yifei (who previously took the title role). Directed by Niki Caro - who helmed Whale Rider and The Zookeeper’s Wife Mulan will remake the 1998 hit animated feature, which focuses on a young woman's quest to save her father from death in the army, as she secretly goes in his place and becomes one of China's greatest heroines in the process. Yen will play Commander Tung, a mentor and teacher to Mulan.

If there was one way to get me to jump in line for a ticket to see a live-action Mulan, this is it. Donnie Yen is a straight up hero, one of the most charismatic and physically gifted performers on the planet, whose mere presence means there's probably going to be some live-wire action inserted into the tale. Personally, I'm all for it, and you should be, too.
