New Season Of AMERICAN HORROR STORY Will Take On The 2016 Election

Sure, why not?

Last night, Ryan Murphy (the reigning king of deliriously trashy, guilty-pleasure TV shows) appeared on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live and dropped a bombshell: the next season of American Horror Story will take on the 2016 election.

How exactly will that work in practice? Murphy's not forthcoming with the details, but when asked by a dumbfounded Andy Cohen if there'll "be a Trump in it", Murphy replies, "Maybe."

American Horror Story regulars Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters are both signed on to appear in the show's forthcoming seventh season, but obviously that doesn't mean that either of them will be playing Trump or Hillary (or whatever their corresponding characters may be named).

This news arrives the day after we learned that Mark Boal and Meghan Ellison are working on an eight-to-ten hour series which will also be based on the 2016 election. At the time, I questioned whether or not I was ready for such a thing. No such question exists regarding my interest in a season of American Horror Story based on the same material: given everything that's going on right now, this feels like a legitimately bad, tacky idea. Thanks but no thanks, FX.

How about you guys? You into this nonsense or are you as instantly-exhausted by the news as I am?
