Let The KILLING OF A SACRED DEER Trailer Under Your Skin

The trailer for Yorgos Lanthimos' new film The Killing of a Sacred Deer dropped today, and it's every bit as disconcerting as the movie itself.

It does, however, spoil some of the more potent and absurd images in the film, which if you're familiar with Lanthimos' filmography (Dogtooth), you'll know is a pretty big thing to spoil. I'd watch only if you're not already 100% convinced you're going to see the movie blind, which if you're familiar with Lanthimos' filmography (The Lobster) you probably will be.

I, for one, saw Sacred Deer this week at the New Zealand International Film Festival, and I can confirm that it's an absurdist thriller to be reckoned with, combining medical squick, psychosexual squirm, and a Kubrickian sense of atmosphere. Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman are great, again, after their teaming in The Beguiled earlier this year, but it's Barry Keoghan who runs away with the movie. His is a brand of unnerving creepiness that not many actors can pull off. You'll never eat spaghetti the same way again. Or maybe you will. You'll understand when you see it.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer plays Fantastic Fest this September, and premieres in theatres on October 27th. Christ, it's good. I advise against missing it.
