Check Out This Exclusive Clip From THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER
In my Fantastic Fest Review for The Killing of a Sacred Deer, I praised the film (and its director, Yorgos Lanthimos) for its chillingly aloof performance style, saying:
...The Killing of a Sacred Deer owns the same stilted affectation that defined his performers’ turns in previous works. Only, where The Lobster utilized awkward line deliveries to emphasize the comedy of several hapless singles racing against the clock to discover a match, Killing of a Sacred Deer’s heightened, formal acting creates a discordant disconnect from the realistic setting. Now, these characters are nothing more than moral avatars, wrestling with questions of disease and death. The most unsettling element of Sacred Deer is probably the way all of the environments are familiar, but we can hardly penetrate these cold characters’ existences.
For those of you who missed the movie at fests, or in its limited theatrical run, The Killing of a Sacred Deer comes home tomorrow on Blu-ray, DVD and VOD. To celebrate, BMD were granted an exclusive BTS clip from the release's Special Features, in which Colin Farrell explains why he's so enamored with Lanthimos' style of performance direction.
Take a look:
Kinda great to hear Farrell so self-deprecating even when talking about the things he loves. That guy is a hero (and that brogue and beard combo are *chef's kiss*).
The Killing of a Sacred Deer - which also stars Nicole Kidman and Barry Keoghan - is set to creep you out at home, beginning tomorrow, January 23rd. Do check it out.
