Josh Boone Says NEW MUTANTS May Be ‘The Hardest PG-13 Ever Made’

Recently, we learned that Josh Boone's New Mutants (which, as you know, is being sold as a horror film within the X-Men universe) was undergoing a release date switcheroo, moving from April of this year to February of next year. Sucks, but whatcanyado? Just sit and wait, that's what.

And while we're waiting, Boone recently spoke with Empire about the film, where he offered up the following quote (as reported by ComicBookMovie):

"This movie is probably the hardest PG-13 ever made. I mean, we’ve pushed it. The horror is pretty dark, but there’s also an emotional core, too. If I can scare you and make you cry: that’s the goal."

Interesting.

Maybe, given the "horror" label and following the huge success of Fox's last two R-rated X-spinoffs (Logan and Deadpool), you figured New Mutants would also be rated R. Sounds like that's not the plan! Of course it's still possible the film will be slapped with an R-rating before all's said and done - stranger things have happened! - but if Boone's convinced it'll end up PG-13, we should probably listen to him (reminder: a film's rating has no bearing on its quality).
