Chloë Grace Moretz Compares The SUSPIRIA Remake To THE SHINING
As pointed out by the folks at IndieWire, Chloë Grace Moretz made an appearance at the Provincetown Film Festival earlier this month (where the actress was promoting her forthcoming film The Miseducation of Cameron Post), and while there the actress expressed a few eyebrow-raising opinions regarding Luca Guadagnino's Suspiria remake, which Moretz will appear in later this year.
For instance:
“This is a really big statement, but this is the closest to modern Stanley Kubrick I‘ve ever seen."
And:
“You’re put into a world, which I can only describe it as being like The Shining in a lot of ways, where you’re just encompassed in a filmmaker’s brain and you’re just implanted in there, and there’s nothing like it that you will ever see.”
Bold statements! Exciting statements, as well, should they prove to be accurate! But still, can't help but feel like Moretz is playing with matches here: as you may already know, comparing almost anything to the work of Stanley Kubrick - much less The Shining - is a sure-fire way to get yelled at by the internet.
Here's another interesting thing Moretz had to say about the film:
“Here’s the thing, it’s so secretive that it’s super locked down. It’s secretive and I want it to be secretive because you guys are gonna be so shocked. It is WILD. It’s crazy. I can say this: I speak German mainly in the movie. So you won’t recognize me very well. I seem like a different person and I sound like a different person.”
Well, she's dead-on about that secrecy thing: the wall of silence surrounding Suspiria has only recently started to come down, with an eye-poppingly gruesome presentation at this year's CinemaCon (read my report on that hilarious luncheon here) and a first trailer that left quite the impression amongst fans and newcomers alike (if you missed it, that's here). As for this "speaking mainly German" thing: not super-exciting, perhaps, but look - we're so eager to learn everything about this movie, every new scrap of info tends to feel like a goddamn bounty.

Anyhoo, Suspiria lands in theaters on November 2nd. We think our bodies are ready.
