Have You Seen This Awesome METAL GEAR Concept Art?

Jordan Vogt-Roberts really, really wants to make a METAL GEAR movie.

If you're part of the festering hive of scum and villainy known as "Film Twitter", there's a good chance you're following Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Roberts, one of the platform's more outspoken and entertaining personalities. But on the off-chance that you're not already following the dude, we wanted to point you in the direction of some seriously cool concept art the director's been sharing for his proposed Metal Gear movie.

Metal Gear, for the uninitiated, is one of the video game world's greatest and most beloved franchises, a deeply weird, cybernetically-enhanced, paranoid fever dream of a series masterminded by the legendary Hideo Kojima. Over the past few years, Roberts has been gunning hard to get his own Metal Gear adaptation off the ground (something we should all be interested in seeing, if for no other reason than to see casual moviegoers reckoning with the series' truly bizarre mythology), and now it appears he's commissioned a ton of awesome concept art for the project.

In a thread starting right here, Roberts has been releasing a new piece of Metal Gear concept art every day, alongside little blurbs telling us who created the pieces (this project involved a bunch of different artists) and what we're looking at. Turns out, a Jordan Vogt-Roberts Metal Gear movie would look a lot like an actual Metal Gear game, which is to say: hallucinatory, post-modern and very, very badass.

Just look at these:

In addition to the above, Roberts spoke to IGN during last week's SDCC and offered up a few thoughts on the Metal Gear script he's trying to get put into production:

“We’re not exactly adapting something verbatim as ‘this game,’ but we’re also not just going to throw it out in a crazy Dark Tower way that it completely disregards why fans love the thing,” Vogt-Roberts said that Kojima even encouraged him to branch out, literally telling him “Do what I would do, betray your audience.”

“My goal really is to try and translate what the fans want and expect, and to really take the unwieldy, amazing, decades-spanning timeline and have a way to make part of that make sense as a film.”

Yeah, we're into all of that (also, bonus points for dragging The Dark Tower).

Head on over to the director's Twitter feed - and, specifically, this ongoing thread - to see the rest of Roberts' Metal Gear concept art collection. As of right now, the film hasn't been given the official go-ahead, but perhaps if a few more fans see what Roberts is trying to do here, we can will this wild-ass movie into existence.

Stay tuned for more on the proposed Metal Gear movie as it becomes available.
