Sounds Like Tom Hanks Might Play Gepetto In The New PINOCCHIO

We probably could've found a less depressing header image for this post.

According to our friends over at Collider, living legend and national treasure Tom Hanks is being eyed to play the part of Gepetto in Paul King's live-action retelling of Pinocchio. Nothing's set in stone as of yet, so this is one of those kinda stories. You can take it or leave it, we'll be fine either way.

Gepetto, for those of you who don't recall, is the kindly old woodcarver whose reckless meddling in the dark arts eventually gives rise to the grotesque abomination known as Pinocchio, who walks around looking like this:

Anyhoo, this version of Pinocchio is not to be confused with the other version of Pinocchio currently being assembled over at Netflix. That one's headed our way via director Guillermo Del Toro, and will be a stop-motion animated, musical affair. It will not have Tom Hanks.

No release date has been set for Paul King's Pinocchio, but it'll start shooting next summer. Stay tuned for further updates on this one as they become available.
