CONFIRMED: Samuel L. Jackson And Chris Rock Will Headline The New SAW
Here's a very unexpected rumor (well, confirmed rumor) to kick your week off with: according to our friends over at Bloody Disgusting, Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock will headline the new Saw.
This is the same Saw we learned about last month - y'know, the one based on an idea by Rock and directed by returning franchise helmer Darren Lynn Bousman? Bloody Disgusting wrote up the report as an unconfirmed rumor, only to later update their post confirming the scoop.
Obviously, there's not much further to go on here. I suppose we could speculate that this news suggests the new Saw will find Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock trapped together in one of Jigsaw's deadly escape rooms, but of course there's no guarantee. We don't know hardly anything about this movie, or what it'll do to the meticulously-maintained Saw timeline. For all we know, Rock and Jackson could be playing cops.
UPDATE: Lionsgate has now confirmed Rock and Jackson's casting, along with Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols, saying:
“We think Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock along with Max Minghella and Marisol Nichols make this film completely special in the Saw canon and we can’t wait to unleash this unexpected and sinister new story on fans of this franchise. This is next level of Saw on full tilt,” said Joe Drake, Chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group."
Well, this certainly gets the mind working as to what Bousman and company are up to. We'll be keeping our ears to the ground for further updates on this one, and will let you know if we hear anything worth sharing. Stay tuned.
