Peter Capaldi Just Joined James Gunn’s THE SUICIDE SQUAD

In which Malcolm Tucker says "Fuckity hello!" to the DCU.

By my count, we have now run 10 posts about the ever-expanding cast of James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, which means we're juuuuust about out of things to say about this situation beyond, "Holy shit, this movie is gonna have an incredible cast!" Today's news does not break that streak.

According to Deadline, former Doctor Who star (or, in this household, former Malcolm Tucker) Peter Capaldi has joined the cast of James Gunn's still-gestating reboot. The role is "unspecified", so it could be anyone - or, quite frankly, anything. This is, after all, the movie that's gonna have a giant shark-man in it.

Capaldi joins a cast which already includes Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and Joel Kinnaman (all returning to play their characters from David Ayer's Suicide Squad), Idris Elba (character: unknown), David Dastmalchian (as the Polka-Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (as Ratcatcher), Flula Borg (character: unknown), Steve Agee (as the aforementioned King Shark), Nathan Fillion (character: unknown), and Taika Waititi (character: unknown). Deadline's report also says that everyone's favorite tabloid fixture, Pete Davidson, is also up for a small part in the film, but they don't know who or what he'll be playing, either.

Since there's nothing further to report here, I'd like to take this opportunity to point all of you towards Armando Iannucci's In The Loop, which features a blisteringly profane and hilarious turn from Capaldi. In The Loop is one of the funniest movies ever made, and my personal pick for the funniest movie of the past decade. If you rent In The Loop and don't think it's funny, well, I can't help you. Watch In The Loop today.

Oh, and stay tuned for more on The Suicide Squad as further updates become available.
