At Long Last, LOCKE & KEY Will Hit Netflix In February

Stand by for an important announcement from Netflix...

Yes, that's right: Locke & Key, the long-awaited adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez's IDW Comics series of the same name, will finally hit Netflix in February. One week before Valentine's Day, if you'd like to put a finer point on it. February 7th, if you'd like to get really technical about it. The day after the 6th but before the - y'know what, you get the idea.

For those who haven't been paying attention, Hollywood's been trying to make a Locke & Key TV series happens for years. At one point, it was going to be a FOX series. Then it was a Hulu series...until it wasn't. In both cases, a pilot was filmed but neither network moved forward with the show, and after Hulu bailed it really seemed like a Locke & Key series might never happen.

Then, last May, we learned that Netflix had scooped up the project, and shortly thereafter we learned they'd also gone ahead and ordered ten full episodes of the series. Now, over a year later, we've finally got a release date. Of course it's still possible that some other unforeseen disaster might prevent Locke & Key from premiering on that date (an asteroid hitting the Earth, someone unplugs Netflix, who knows what), but for now it looks like this excellent horror comic will finally make its way to screens, and in just a matter of weeks. Fingers crossed! 

Here's a synopsis, for anyone unfamiliar with the comic:

"After their father is murdered under mysterious circumstances, the three Locke siblings and their mother move into their ancestral home, Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father's death.  As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious demon awakens — and will stop at nothing to steal them. From Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Meredith Averill (The Haunting of Hill House), the series is a coming-of-age mystery about love, loss, and the unshakable bonds that define family."
